Bill Murawski
for
Public Advocate

Candidate Profile

Bill Murawski is a true Native New Yorker.  Born and raised during the 50's and 60's in Clinton, which is located on  Manhattan’s West Side, he expanded his awareness of many of our city’s diverse cultures and communities by residing in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx for 11 years.  He returned to his roots in Clinton during 1988 and now lives across the street from where he grew up.  Bill is a dedicated and courageous community leader, a friend to the people, and problem solver with a strong commitment to improving the quality of life for all New Yorkers.

Growing up in the multi-cultural, working class neighborhood of Clinton, Bill learned first hand the importance of loyalty, family and community.  Bill’s strong and resolute family served as great role models for him as a boy.  He is the son of a disabled WW II Veteran, a working mother, and was highly influenced by several very determined aunts.  One aunt became the first woman bus driver in America when the school board refused to accommodate a school bus route to take her children to school.  Another aunt achieved a disability settlement for Bill’s father as a result of writing a compelling letter directly to the President of the United States.

Bill’s own character was put to the test upon the passing of his father.  Though just a teenager, he demonstrated a strong sense of integrity and self-sacrifice when he gave up the opportunity for a hockey scholarship at Boston College and a promising music career in order to support his six younger sisters and his mother.  Bill learned the meaning of adversity at an early age and proved how to overcome it.  He decided to enter the computer field when it was in its infant stages.  The cost of part of his education for computers came from the GI Bill and the remainder came from a loan made by his Aunt Jean.

Bill became a multi-faceted computer technologist who toiled many hours in various disciplines of the Information Technology (IT) industry working for various leading-edge computer companies.  His many successes are attributed to a no-nonsense work ethic and the ability to make solutions where others could find none. Some of the firms that benefited from Bill’s support during his 30 year technology career are  Goldman Sachs, First Boston Corporation, Dean Witter and Securities Industries Automation Corporation (SIAC). Bill also supported a variety of government installations such as the Naval Air Development Center (NADC), the US Postal Service and Brookhaven National Labs.  Whether he served as Regional Manager, Systems Business Analyst or Regional Technical Support Engineer, the customer’s satisfaction always came first.  In the business world, Bill’s reputation as a problem solver and a dedicated supporter of his customers needs is second to none.

Bill’s communication talents and community activism were first propelled into action back in the mid-seventies.  When Bill learned that senior citizen neighbors living in a Forest Hills apartment building were being illegally evicted he became a housing activist for the first time fighting for the rights of seniors as tenants.  In 1992, Bill opposed and triumphed over a tough pro-landlord law firm that had the reputation of never losing.  An independent thinker with foresight, Bill’s innovative work as an award-winning community television producer brought the subject of saving the rent regulations to the New York City public long before it became a major issue in 1997.  It’s no small wonder that all of the community neighbors who have asked for Bill’s help in housing issues retained their homes whether or not it was necessary to accompany them to housing court.

In 1995, Bill founded the DeWitt Clinton Park Restoration Foundation to restore and maintain a long neglected park from further destruction as a result of a privatization by the city that was a dismal failure and reportedly lost two million dollars.  Bill also stepped in to help the children of his community who were filled with false promises of a baseball league by establishing the Joe Horvath Baseball League in 1997 with the help business leaders in and outside the community.

Bill is a strong supporter of the welfare of children when it comes to health and education.  He is on a crusade to establish a children’s hospital called Jolly St. Nicks – A Place for Children and a school that will be named DeWitt Clinton Institute of Technology and Environmental Sciences.

Yes, Bill is truly following in the steps of one of his many role models -- DeWitt Clinton -- who Bill believes when he was mayor of New York City, accomplished more for the city than any other who followed.  Bill also developed a plan that will fund the renovation and upkeep of all community parks in the city with a five borough concert tour named the Phoenix Bird Rising Project.

For more than twenty-five years, Bill Murawski has proven to be a devoted friend to the people of the city wherever he calls home.  Time and time again Bill has proven that progressively responsible fiscal methods and sound social interactions are the way to “get things done” to improve the community and protect the rights of his neighbors.

It can all be summed up in the words of one of Bill’s long-time friends and supporters . . . . . . .

“Every community needs a Bill Murawski!”

Help Elect Bill Murawski to represent ALL communities in NYC as the Public Advocate

..

Help elect me as your public advocate.  I will continue to fight for the way life should be in New York City because I am the only candidate who knows and cares about how good it can be!

.

I became a community activist in 1995. Because of my success as an activist and uncovering corruption in the system, I gave up my successful corporate career of 30 years in the computer field in 1997 to concentrate on building a career as an advocate for all.

My word of honor!

It's unfortunate that money talks and everyone else walks in today's society. Contribute what you can to help me get elected.

One of my strenghts is that of an educator. Take a look at the community cable projects that I've done. Clips from the shows are due by the beginning of September.
